Hotpoint BS1400
This is Hotpoint's most expensive washing machine, but not necessarily its best specified. At 100cm tall it isn't going to fit under your kitchen counter, so you'll need to have a utility room to put it in. Given its enormous height it's surprising that it doesn't manage to accommodate the largest capacity, but at 8.5kg it has Hotpoint's second largest capacity, pipped to the post by the AQXGD169PM which offers 9kg. The spin speed is also only 1400rpm, which isn't bad but is certainly not as good as the 1600rpm found on many other models. One of its distinguishing features is the Maxi Load programme for king size bed spreads. But is this really something to write home about? The editor's personal experience is that king size bed spreads fit quite comfortably into 7kg washing machines (which also fit under the kitchen counter.) Big and expensive.
